As always, such a beautiful devotion, both to self and to community. Thank you for holding us with your words and thank you for allowing yourself to be held. It is so good to be reminded that no matter how adrift, we all still have ourselves to find grounding in, and each other, to find grounding with.
what a beautiful incantation -- I love the prompt to be the root in a time of uprootedness, and I'm excited to sit with, what else, besides a root, we can re-become for our body and soul, and those we love, to hold onto and move with. I'm thinking of myself as also the soil that keeps some part of the root contained in itself even as it moves with the shoveling and the rains. thank you for this prompt to imagine differently.
Wow, this was very powerful for me. I have a very different mother story, but yet I feel the same intensity of needing to feel rooted because my mother passed last year at 92yrs old. For 48 years, she was my anchor simply by existing, and Iβve felt so untethered since then. Iβve used the words βsafety netβ this year, and how I need to somehow become my own net, but I really love the rooted metaphor more. Thank you for your blessing at the end too. This is now my new mantra to steady me. Thank you again.
Your garden is glorious, Lisa, and if I'm assuming correctly, those roots you've birthed are as lovely as they are strong! My roots are shifting, too, so your reflections shine bright for me. Thank you for sharing.
I love this, and Iβll be pondering how the truth here speaks to the hyper-individualism and disconnection now plaguing us. Our culture has of course leaned much too far into the idea that we need only ourselves β our own abilities, and the products we can buy β not other people. Itβs appealing to believe we have so much control over what happens in our lives. But as you say here, control and certainty arenβt feasible, so they canβt be the objective. But we can trust and value our ability to live well enough within uncertainty, within pain. And sometimes that drive will cause us to reach our own roots toward the roots of others, to learn what can be shared. Thank you for reach out yours. π
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. You know exactly whatβs needed. For so many of us. Itβs so exquisite to behold that a personal journey is actually a collective one as well. Thank you!! Also, please donβt forget to market your book at the bottom of each Substack missive. Youβll be surprised at how many people still donβt know youβve written a book and would love to buy it if they did know, smiles. ππ½π€
This is so beautiful and resonates so much with how Iβve been feeling. Your words put magic and validation into the feelings, I am so grateful! β€οΈ
"Rootedness needed to burst forth within me, not just around me" is a harder version of a lesson that usually gets offered as something gentler and less demanding. Most advice about groundedness quietly still points outward, find your people, build your routine, create stability. This is asking for something that doesn't depend on any external condition holding still long enough to lean on, which is a genuinely different and much harder thing to build.
There is so much wisdom in this. I will definitely come back and re-read, many times over. This sentence, in particular, I so much needed just now "May you become the rootedness you are looking for." The photos are also stunning, I felt like I could get lost in them. Thank you, Lisa for sharing. β‘
Love this sentence.
βTo not wait until change stops, but to anticipate it with openheartedness.β
Grateful for your presence here.
