Oh, Lisa. Your words are a balm every week. And I often scribble phrases or sentences to remember - to guide me. This week, its these: "I want to tell you your grief for the violence of this world is a mirror of your heart refusing to close, and a heart refusing to close in the face of all this is a subversive act, and the quiet, subtle subversive acts matter right now, too." Thank you thank you thank you. (Also: The paragraph that followed that one - also exactly what I need to hear today.) Thank you.
My favorite lines today are “imperfect is the only way” and “waking into a wider container.” These words hit me right where I’m at. Thank you as always 💜
Thanks as always for your beautifully worded wisdom, especially this part: “I want to tell you I find myself clinging to what I know at times, even when what I know is begging me to let it go, and there is a lot of grace to be had with the parts of us that aren’t quite ready to listen to what we’re ready for.”
Lisa, thank you so much, as always, for your words and being <3
I find lots of comfort in the prophecy of the Shambhala warriors and Joanna Macy's words. As a human being and as a therapist-in-training, this prophecy does indeed feel like a powerful marching order that helps my heart stay connected and hopeful.
A hot cup of coffee on this rainy, windy morning, feeling unease stirring up somewhere deep inside. This piece showed up just when I needed it. “Walk into a wider container”… I’ve spent years folding myself smaller to fit others’ visions. This is the kind of permission I’m learning to give myself now. Grateful for this. 🤍
As several others also mentioned, these sentences stuck with me in particular:
"I want to tell you your grief for the violence of this world is a mirror of your heart refusing to close, and a heart refusing to close in the face of all this is a subversive act, and the quiet, subtle subversive acts matter right now, too.”
I visualize these small subversive acts as contributing threads which universally connect us to the future we deserve. They all entwine and many threads make a strong fabric - our basis for the world we want to create for each other as creatures of care and community. A slow and steady foundation 🤍 thank you for this!
So much to love in this one. These lines resonated particularly: "I want to tell you your grief for the violence of this world is a mirror of your heart refusing to close, and a heart refusing to close in the face of all this is a subversive act, and the quiet, subtle subversive acts matter right now, too." You so masterfully employ anaphora again and again. They read sometimes like a prayer r incantation, sometimes like a rant, sometimes like a song. Always with depth and resonant feeling. Thank you.
So much wisdom and care and nourishment here, as always. I'm especially enjoying Sufjan taking me back to my undergrad days, especially as I'm gearing up to go back to school again. 💫 Thank you for your beautiful and heartfelt perspective 💖
So counterintuitive, so wise, such a gift on this Sunday morning. Thank you.
Resistance is a marathon. Urgency needs slow, careful, deep discernment. Action must follow but it needs to flow from a deep well to make it sustainable.
Ireland!! Amazing, I love when the land echoes across itself like that. Thank you so much for this: “I want to tell you how fucking tender and courageous it is to share your heart via your art with the world…Don't forget to honor the guts it requires, the quiet unseen willingness, every single time” I really needed that reminder, am constantly battling the urge to dismiss the courage of tenderness. Relatedly, that Pema quote is GOLD. Why why why do we pass up the butterfly flutter? It makes so little sense (until we peek into the vagus nerve?)

Love these reminders. Love that play-doh waffle! Love the giving hands.
Love seeing your name always!

Such gold, right? I return to it often. Thank you <3
Oooh, an endorsement by Tricia Hersey!!! And many other wonderful folk. Hope you can bathe in the deservedness of this. Look forward to reading it x
Truly blows my heart open - so grateful. Thank you <3
Sometimes growth is just noticing the air feels lighter and letting that be enough.
