I SO wanted to come to the Oakland event you hosted this week, but couldn't swing it with my babysitter / childcare schedule 😭 hopefully next time! I am so glad you're stepping into this part of yourself and embracing it. Being "seen" (both my body literally being seen, and my personal creative work like poetry) has been a huge journey for me. The connections I've made by doing poetry open mic nights or sharing my work in workshops have been so rewarding. IRL *always* feels better to me than online!
“The grief and gift of needing to do this curling in and stretching outward for a lifetime, not once but countless times, not a finishing but a devotion.” This struck me…we certainly do a lot of curling in and stretching out in the womb, don’t we? Guess we are practicing before we get here!
It was such an honor to hear you speak at your first ever book event! I loved hearing your stories from you. Thank you so much for being you and letting me talk your ear off for a short amount of time. And thank you for being such an inspiration
Your becoming is a gift for us to witness and treasure.
There is something so nourishing about learning to see ourselves through the eyes of those who reflect love back to us — and then having the courage to let it in.
To soak in that sunshine is its own kind of holy nutrition.
You reminded me of the online meet at the end of May - thank you for these opportunities of connecting with you in person whether online or IRL Lisa. None of us can connect if we don't show up in the first place - thank you for showing up as your truer self, for yourself first but also for us too ♥️
I love this so much, thank you. The recognition of the continuity of it all. We're sold the dream of 'one and done' that somehow we will have a dark night of the soul and then we will, miraculously, be free and liberated and whole. We move in spirals, revisting the same things from a different height, a new perspective. We get to practice, fail, try again. So beautiful to feel the accord in this, that we are not alone. Thank you.
Thank you for this beautiful, heartfelt work, so much resonance for me. 🤍
Especially this.
‘I want to tell you how unsettling it can be to recognise how some of who we’ve thought ourselves to be is actually false — a lie we conjured to keep ourselves from stretching outward more fully — a safekeeping of our hearts afraid of being broken — a gesture of protection — so sensible and caring when it was needed, and so stifling when it no longer is.’
‘I want to tell you the grief and gift of setting down what is no longer needed, feeling the the wind reaching hidden-away corners of you, feeling yourself stretching wider into the world, feeling more of your aliveness.’
I also have a question - is the link from the phrase, ‘we don’t need to keep building altars to the things we didn’t get’ supposed to direct us to a specific post or place on Instagram or to Instagram in general?
Beautiful post, Lisa! I can relate to so much of it. I feel I have been in a series of "Bardos," and haven't really emerged yet. Yet, each day I wake up I feel so grateful for my life. I just signed up for a 4-session series for cultivating a personal story narrative that leads to connection. The woman who facilitates it is a Moth (themoth.org) story slam winner and TEDx speaker. I know I need this experience and I look forward to it.
One of the tarot spreads I recently drew from my deck included the Hermit in the "what I'm leaving behind" position. That said a lot. It's funny, because in an earlier spread, The Hermit came up as an encouragement to look inward for one of the upcoming 6 months. There's different levels of this card at play in each of the spreads, and I am excited to see how it all plays out. :)
'we’re already doing what we didn’t know we could do' So beautiful to remember this, thank you 🧡
One I need often 💛
